In a letter dated 11 May 1974 from Myrtle Welter Washburn to Rebecca Fixsen, she states "I do not know my grandmothers maiden name but you could ask Charlotte Swartz about that as her grandfather on her mothers side and my grandmother on my dad's side were brother and sister." Based on this information it was determined that the two people she was referring to were Anna Neuens, wife of Nic Welter and Anna's brother, Peter Neuens who was married to Octavia Quinette whose daughter was Charlotte Neuens.

"Glenmavis Distillery: This distillery derives its name from it being situated at the W end of a ravine called Mavis Glen (Glen Mavis on the current OS 1:10000 map, 1990), 1/2 mile NE of Bathgate. The buildings are very extensive, consisting of mills, malthouses, kilns, mash houses, coolers, stores etc. It is worked both by steam and water wheel and produces about 2000 gallons weekly.
It was first erected about 1795. There is a handsone dwelling house two storeys high with two well kept gardens attached. There are also some labourers' dwellings. Mr J McNab is the occupier. It is in the hands of the trustees of Marjoribanks."
